The gallery is set up to give you an idea of the biodiversity of mammals and birds you can find around the coast of Caithness.

The Gallery is divided into 5 pages, this page is for general pictures the other 3 pages which can be selected above are for pictures of the named creatures. All the pictures posted are thumbnails that are linked to larger images stored on photobucket, this is done to reduce the cost for the site.

This year (2011) i have started to add the odd video clip the first of which can be found on the seal page. The video clip was taken with an EOS 5D mk2 with a 2x extender and my 5.6 400mm zoom lens.

I will be the first to admit that i'm not a great photographer so excuse some of the poor pictures.

The cetacean pictures have all been taken from the cliffs or shore line in Caithness  unless marked with a (B) for boat or (F) for ferry.

Cetacean Pictures are the most difficult to obtain,  even with my 5.6 400mm Canon zoom lens they have to be close to the shore.

I take cetacean pictures for proof of sighting and for the  picture to be of value for the I.D. catalogue

All the pictures shown in the gallery have been taken  in Caithness by me  (Colin Bird) or by Karen Munro, This may change if we receive pictures from other sources.
